  29. I think the prototype that is going to be displayed at CeBIT96 will be the
  30. amiga lowend for the forseeable future.  AT can't make cheap a1200s, they
  31. certainly can't make cheap PPC machines.  So the close proximity of the release
  32. dates means little.

  41. True, if you can't make something cheaper than a fully decked out P75 machine
  42. then you have to compete with it on a hardware basis.  The OS goes so far to
  43. compensate, what is left has to be made up in real hardware from AT.

  80. They have to solve the problem of amiga upgrades feeling like buying a new
  81. computer every year.  :)  The PPC card from Phase V, the lowend model, is
  82. supposed to be around $1000 CDN, ditto for the current 040 card for the a1200.
  83. You spend the price of a new computer and you don't get a new computer.

  85. Perhaps Phase V should start making computers instead of cards. :)  Why do they
  86. need an amiga peripheral for? :)  It is more of a case of buying an amiga to
  87. connect to the cpu card than the reverse. :)

  89. If AT sold a machine with a svga card, hard drive, cd-rom, simm sockets, and
  90. the 030 @ >40Mhz, taking the os into account they could have a fairly
  91. adequate home computer to sell.  If they could sell them for $800 CDN and make
  92. a profit, it would be the way to go, although I get the feeling they wouldn't
  93. be able to make c64s for less than $400 CDN. :)  The prototype mentioned
  94. satisfies most of the specs I mentioned but I doubt a svga card will be a
  95. possibility, I think AT will be shooting itself in the foot with a proprietary
  96. slot scheme.
